The Best Videogame Ever picspam :D.

emeraldembersOnly a short one, but I'm between stories and wanted something to do, so without further ado:
The Secret of Monkey Island: The Picspam!
A little intro, first:
Ahem. It is no small secret that I widely consider this to be the best videogame ever made. It's the first game I ever looked forward to from a mere screenshot (I screencapped the moment that said screenshot was of later in this picspam), the first game I ever laughed at, the first game where I had a crush on the main character (YES, I know, the shame), the first game I ever genuinely enjoyed completing, and the first game where I actively pursued its sequels. Except Escape From Monkey Island, which was shoddy in comparison to the others.
ANYWAY. Why the love for this game? Well, it's pretty - even pretty now despite the 256 graphics designed for an Atari - the music stands up even today, and it's genuinely hilarious, as well as ingenious.
Plus. Pirates.
What's not to like?
Honest to God, BEST THING THIS STUDIO EVER DID. Ever.
And in the intro, just to set up the sort of game this is... the lookout. You startled him, so of course, he turns to face you. Just so happens that you're in a different direction. We have a myopic lookout, people <3.
Re-elect Governor Marley! Why? Well...
So, you pop into the local bar for pirates and scallywags, appropriately titled The Scumm Bar, and ask an obviously time-appropriate and genre-appropriate question.
And get a similar answer!
The Plot Begins:
Seems everyone around here is a little spooked by a ghost ship haunting the waters. No work for pirates, really. Seems that the governor, Governor Elaine Marley (&hearts &hearts &hearts), had a guest around some time ago. Captain LeChuck.
She didn't take to him much...
And he didn't take to that much...
Problem is, he didn't stay dead.
Not that he's got any complaints about that.
And it's safe to say his crew have no complaints... really...
And they've been quite happy with the lack of disruptions until now.
And the old pirates were playing ball...
But, you know, I'm sure the new guy won't be a problem. Not at all...
Multiculturalism and positive feminine imagery? In my 1990 videogame?:
When you're five years old the media you're exposed to does help you form your first opinions about the world at large. You know what's awesome? Getting to look at other women kicking ass. And not just white women, either.
We have our regulation oracle/fortune teller/voodoo lady :D
And better still, we have the best fighter in all the Caribbean...
Fanboyed by the Duke Nukem lookalike who trains our Guybrush Threepwood to fight...
And she is a woman.
A gorgeous, fiesty woman.
Which leads us, at overdue last...
To the first ever woman - even beating Princess Leia in this - who I fell in love with.
And, um... I think you can see why.
She's beautiful. I mean, beyond beautiful. I still want to be her. And she's a Governor, and she's smart, and she saves herself from peril, and I love her. :D
But Really, There's One Reason Above All To Fall In Love:
The sense of humour.
From fourth wall breaking...
To self-referencing other things in the LucasArts arsenal...
To the just plain bizarre...
And the slapstick.
And what I can only describe...
As the slapstickier.
Stan, who is quite possibly the only character in anything, ever, to come close to gesticulating as wildly as I'm known to do in real life. You could hurt yourself if you went near those things!
Finally, because Guybrush is special, and likes to push rocks off cliffs onto catapults below without checking where said catapults are aiming...
His ship might happen to suffer obvious results.
I agree, Guybrush, I agree.
And A Legend Is Born:
Universally acknowledged (or, well, acknowledged by PC Gamer anyway) as the greatest videogaming moment of all time.
Insult sword fighting.
The insult...
The counter.
Top that Squeenix.
