Slowly, slowly, slowly but surely starting to come down from the epic,
epic high of Christmas day now, aided by contracting a stinking cold ;), but I'm just still - :D. About most everything, really.
Thoughts on Doctor Who;
( Spoilers! )Thoughts on Sherlock Holmes;
( Possibly vaguely spoilery. )Thoughts on Batman: Arkham Asylum; OMG OMG OMG.
BEST GAME I'VE PLAYED IN ABOUT FIVE YEARS IF NOT MORE. Seriously,
everyone should own a copy of this game. It's an open secret that for a girl gamer, I actually really, really suck at games, and have an incredible affection for games that cater for people who are as sucky as me ;). Adventure games in general, Bioshock, Legacy of Kain etc - if a game looks after me, I will treasure it. The rarity is a game that makes you look
really really good even if you suck, and for that reason, Batman: Arkham Asylum ranks right up alongside Devil May Cry for me now, because any game that makes you want to put down the controller, stand up, pose dramatically and yell "I AM BATMAN!" after a victory is - yeah. Gameplay; amazing. Learning curve; masterfully designed. Music; fairly neutral, doesn't get on your nerves but doesn't especially stand out either. Graphics; a little flawed if you don't have HD to get the full glory out of them and
slight syncing issues between voices and visuals, but otherwise, glorious - and the backgrounds and building designs are
wonderful, with a slightly comic-book feel that really works. Voices; fantastic, including the bit-parts which is a real rarity. Sound design is good. Plot so far is a stroke of genius because it feels like a genuine Batman story. Honestly, the whole package is virtually
flawless - it's been crafted with love and attention and it really, really shows.
Basically, if you don't have this game already and you have a system that will play it,
get it.
